Characteristics

An identifiable earlier future

Choose a period's particular vision of technology before choosing effects.

Space Age illustration

Orbital paths, planets, and speculative travel frame a future destination.

Electronic landscapes

The event specimen combines a perspective grid, a striped sun, and slanted display type.

Material interfaces

The player uses a silver casing, inset display, and raised controls.

Use it

Figma
Space travel poster
  1. Set a dark teal frame with a large cream destination title.
  2. Build a planet from a circle and clipped bands.
  3. Add an elliptical orbit and a small set of stars.
  4. Place departure information along the lower edge.
Y2K media player
  1. Use a light-to-dark metallic fill on the outer casing.
  2. Inset a high-contrast display.
  3. Add raised controls with readable labels.
  4. Make separate paused, playing, and next-track variants.
Starting points
  1. Choose one earlier vision of the future and a concrete artifact.
  2. Match its type, imagery, and surface treatment to that direction.
  3. Check small text and controls without relying on glow or chrome.
Research notes & sources

These original examples separate three directions: Space Age travel, an imagined 1980s electronic-music event, and a Y2K media player. They are contemporary interpretations, not historical reproductions. The player demonstrates interface states without audio. Y2K and Frutiger Aero overlap with retrofuturist revivals but are not synonyms for the whole category.
